Apparently is was supposed to snow today, hence the bleak whiteness in the background. Who knew. Maybe I should get into the habit of checking the weather before I leave my house.

Yesterday, as I was talking to my mother on the phone (after she accidentally face-timed me THREE times in her attempt to make a call), she excitedly told me that I should start taking pictures of my outfits and putting them on Instagram. Because apparently fashion bloggers make a lot of money. She's so cute. But alas, her naive faith in me has given me the encouragement I need to once again try this whole style blogging thing. So this one is for you, mom. Now do you know where I can find approximately 700,000 followers? Thanks. Photos by Ashlie Johnson. Check her out. She's awesome.
I don't totally understand all of the hype around Beyonce. Sure, she's beautiful and talented, but I don't understand why everyone worships her. I'll give her some credit for being a feminist. I'm very pro feminism. And releasing her album without any press was pretty badass. Ok, maybe I do like Beyonce, but not for her music. Anyway, Beyonce feelings aside, I love that "I woke up like this" (#flawless) has become a thing. It's phenomenal. It's no wonder it's been quickly adopted by the fashion industry. Every fashion girl wakes up each day and spends too much time trying to look like they didn't try at all. This shirt is like an optical illusion, tricking people into thinking that I woke up looking like this, when in reality, I didn't. You have to admit though, this outfit is pretty #flawless.
Nothing quite says July like 50 degree temperatures. The *frigid* morning made it near impossible to wear sandals and short sleeves. Luckily I was able to pull this outfit together. I bought both the t-shirt and booties in Paris and they have been my favorite pairing for over a year now. It's so edgy and Parisian I can't even stand it. The boyfriend jeans (which are from Target and are frankly the best pair of boyfriend jeans I've ever had) add a certain "model off-duty" vibe, but the blazer and chunky watch class it up for work.
Since I've been putting off laundry for the last week or two, I've decided to challenge myself to wear what's currently clean in my closet. This has actually been a pretty efficient way of forcing myself to be creative with my clothes. I bought this hot pink dress for a party and I figured I would never wear it again. But with a blazer and a belt, it becomes totally wearable for work (luckily I work at an agency where you can pretty much wear whatever you want). Further proof that style is all about being able to transition pieces from day to night -- or vice versa.
I had the awesome opportunity to attend the University of Minnesota’s Senior Apparel Design Fashion Show "ALIGN" as press last weekend. I love going to fashion shows. Not only because I get to see impressive collections and new trends, but because it gives me an excuse to get dressed up and take more risks that I would normally.
I tucked my “tres cool” sweater into a leather skirt, paired it with booties, socks and an armful of accessories for a look that would be pretty standard at Paris Fashion Week. Fun fact: I added the glasses last minute as a joke, but my roommate and I decided that they actually looked kind of cool. I call this ensemble “geek chic.” |
